It's no secret that the Pikes Peak region is a wonderland of breathtaking scenery and adventure-packed outdoor activities. There's no better way to immerse yourself in the splendor of the Rocky Mountain wilderness than to sleep under the star-filled skies and a canopy of pine trees at a local campsite or RV park.
Campgrounds:
For the outdoors (wo)man who likes to have a designated camping area and limited amenities such as bathhouses and built-in hookups and fire pits.
1. Spruce Grove Campground
Between Woodland Park and Cripple Creek, you'll find a sign for Tarryall, set up camp between outcroppings of Pikes Peak granite. Known as a base camp for climbers, hikers and anglers alike, there is plenty of adventure to fill your days.
2. Barr Camp (13 Miles)
Constructed in 1922, this historic cabin welcomes weary hikers for a night of rest, spaghetti dinner and pancake breakfast before the final push to the summit of Pikes Peak. Nestled 6 miles above Manitou Springs, cabins, lean-to shelters and tent sites are available by reservation. Plan to provide your own sleeping bag, water filter and gear.
3. Cheyenne Mountain State Park (9 MILES)
With over 21 miles of hiking and biking trails, plus 51 full-service campsites and 10 walk-in sites, Cheyenne Mountain State Park gives you plenty of outdoorsy fun within an arm’s reach of the cities’ attractions. Take your aim in the archery range or enjoy the playground with the kiddos. Explore nature’s diversity with prairie-to-peak ecosystems along the trails.
4. Mueller State Park
Open year-round, the park is more than forty miles of scenic trails for hiking, camping, mountain biking, horseback riding, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and nature study. Mueller's 5,121 acres of aspen and conifer forests are home to an abundance of wildlife making it ideal for any animal enthusiasts. After mid-October, winter sites are limited and made available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
5. Golden Eagle Campground
The Golden Eagle Ranch is a quiet and beautiful natural setting to camp. The campground offers incredible views, 12+ miles of hiking trails, lakes for fishing, beautiful wildflowers and mountain vistas with a wide variety of wildlife, all providing beautiful photo opportunities with quick access to many of the region’s top attractions.
Dispersed Camping:
For the adventurer who truly wants to "rough it."
Here, you can set up camp anywhere in the National Forest OUTSIDE of a designated campground. Dispersed camping means no services; such as trash removal, and little or no facilities are provided. Be prepared for this type of camping with these rules and tips. With more adventure comes more responsibility. 1. Pike National Forest (8+ Miles)
For those looking for a more rugged trip, the vast Pike National Forest offers dispersed camping almost anywhere within its leafy borders. Set up camp and seek out adventure on popular trails such as The Crags or Horsethief Falls. Wind up the mountain on the rustic Old Stage Road, a dirt road that features roadside and meadow camping just past the first several miles.
2. Red Canyon Park
Enjoy a variety of red rock formations alongside 600 acres of pinon and sage, and red rock formations to explore. While camping is free, you must set up in the designated campground. There are a few pavilions and picnic tables as well as fire pits on site.
3. Texas Creek
West of Cañon City, this is a popular high-use area for motorized recreation users. Campers will soak in stunning views of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range and find a mix of juniper, scrub and pinon pine trees. Keep your eyes peeled for elk, deer and bighorn sheep.
This winding road on the way to Woodland Park features beautiful wildflowers, meadows and overlooks where you can get amazing views of Pikes Peak. Find plenty of campsites on this and the many side roads, as well as the Rainbow Falls area near the Douglas County line.
The Pikes Peak region also has a number of "glamping" locations that give you all the creature comforts of home, while still giving you the full camping experience.

Cloud Camp's wilderness experience boasts unobstructed 360-degree views that showcase the incomparable splendor of Pikes Peak - America's Mountain.
The camping room is just that: your own personal campsite. The best part about camping here? Unlike the wilderness, this room includes a private three-piece bathroom with a sink, shower, toilet and soft Brooklinen towels. Four stories up, this camp spot provides great views of Pikes Peak, Cheyenne Mountain, and the Front Range.

This campground is located just 20 minutes outside the city lights at the base of Pikes Peak, sitting at an elevation of 7,600 feet. The proximity to all the area's many attractions makes us an ideal location for families looking for a summer adventure or folks just passing through for a couple of days. They are a family-owned and operated campground and strive to make you feel at home.
