Need for Speed? Be Richard Petty for a Day

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

For those race-crazy fans who are all ramped up from the Daytona 500 race and aren’t sure what to do next we have the answer, how about playing Richard Petty for a day? That doesn’t mean sporting a feather-adorned cowboy hat or blindingly white chompers but driving like the legend is an option. Pikes Peak International Raceway just south of Colorado Springs, CO is the newest home to the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Anyone interested in a pure adrenaline rush should make the short trip to the raceway. The experience offers a ride-along with a professional driver to take the speedometer to the max (140 miles per hour to be exact). With the engine roaring and the passenger’s body plastered to the side of the car it’s anything but a dull afternoon.

For those looking to take things to the next level, man( or woman) up to the Rookie Driving Experience. The Richard Petty Crew and Pikes Peak International Raceway will make it worth the while. Don’t worry the crew provides extensive training prior to jumping in the driver’s seat. Drivers have a stock car all to themselves with a lead car showing them the way around the track. Drivers have the ability to circle the track eight times to reach their best speed. Upon completion they’ll receive a certificate of completion that includes each lap time. For those who need proof to show their friends should make sure and pick up the in car DVD that leaves no room for skeptics. The 2010 Experience dates are set for May 14-16, and August 6-8.
