Accessible Trails in Colorado Springs

Explore resources for finding the most accessible trails

Enjoying the outdoors should be equally accessible to everyone. While some trails and hiking areas are more difficult to navigate with wheelchairs, strollers and TerrainHoppers, there are many in the Pikes Peak Region that provide easier access.

Trails and Open Space Coalition

The Trails and Open Space Coalition (TOSC) has a page dedicated to stroller/wheelchair-friendly trails. These include paved, dirt and gravel trails that are wider and smoother than your average path. Highlights include:

Cottonwood Creek Trail – 6 miles one way. Wide, paved concrete trail from Powers Blvd to under I-25 that connects to Pikes Peak Greenway Trail.
Perkins Central Garden Trail in Garden of the Gods Park – 1.5-mile loop. Paved, goes past the largest iconic rock features in the park.
Prospect Lake at Memorial Park – 1-mile loop around Prospect Lake with plenty of paths to extend the walk.

AllTrails

AllTrails is a great online/app resource for hiking around the globe. You can filter by location and many other options like stroller and wheelchair friendly. Local highlights include:

Monument Valley Park Loop – 1.5-mile loop. Wide, gravel trail that runs along a river. Mostly flat and well maintained.
Rock Island Trail – 12.5-miles of paved trail that can be done in smaller sections.
Midland Trail – 7.9-miles of flat, dirt trail generally considered easy.

TrailLink

TrailLink is an online resource created by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. You can filter by surface type and wheelchair accessible. Local highlights include

Austin Bluffs Trail – 2.1 miles, concrete, not too crowded.
Briargate Trail – 2.5 miles, concrete, begins at John Stone Park.
Foothills Trail – 6.6 miles, concrete and crushed stone, begins at Oak Valley Ranch Park.
