Indoor Activities for the Family

Snowy or rainy weather putting a damper on your outdoor plans? No worries! Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region have great indoor attractions and activities to keep you and your kids entertained all day long.

1. CAVE OF THE WINDS

Great for all ages, the Discovery Tour tells of the history and discovery of Cave of the Winds. The Caving 101 tour explores undeveloped sections of the Manitou Grand Caverns; climb and crawl through passageways lit only by flashlight. Knowledgeable guides provide groups with two hours of good clean, yet muddy, fun underground!

2. CITYROCK

CityROCK is a climbing gym with an awesome kids area. It offers youth and adult programs, birthday parties, the ultimate beginner experience and options for the entire family. After the kids have climbed out their pent-up energy, go grab healthy, delicious food for even the pickiest eater!

3. COLORADO SPRINGS PIONEERS MUSEUM

Teach the kiddos a thing or two about the history of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region. The museum, housed in the historical El Paso County Court House, features permanent exhibits on the history of the area and changing exhibits on various topics of interest. There is no admission fee, but donations are always welcome.

4. PLAY STREET MUSEUM

Adults are welcome to join in the fun or sit back and relax while their children discover a world that is just their size in this interactive children's museum. It also features a fabulous retail area so you can find a unique toy for your child!

5. SPACE FOUNDATION DISCOVERY CENTER

Have some “out of this world” fun at the Space Foundation’s Discovery Center. The kiddos will be amazed at the 6-ft projection sphere as they learn about Earth, our solar system and space exploration.
*PLEASE NOTE: The Discovery Center is currently closed for renovations and is slated to reopen in Summer 2024. Until then, enjoy these local programs they provide throughout the community.

6. DINOSAUR RESOURCE CENTER

View amazing fossils of T-Rexes, raptors, flying and marine reptiles, huge carnivorous fish and life restorations. Kids can imagine a future in paleontology as they observe a working fossil preparation laboratory.

7. WHIRLYBALL

This is the ultimate combination of lacrosse and basketball while driving a bumper car. Yes, you read that right. After you've gotten your fill on the Whirlyball court, head over to the bowling alley and grab a bite to eat. Enjoy hours of fun, laughter and bonding with your family. Your kids will have so much fun, they might even thank you for it!

8. GHOST TOWN MUSEUM

This indoor museum displays an Old Western town made from the very structures that were part of a thriving mountainside community. Print a "wanted" poster, crank up the player piano, take aim in the shooting gallery and strike it rich while panning for real gold. More treasures can be found in their expansive gift shop.

9. WESTERN MUSEUM OF MINING & INDUSTRY

Colorado's mining history comes to life at the "Museum that Works," featuring more than 4,000 artifacts and machines for kids to explore. They’ll learn the importance of the “Pikes Peak or Bust” Gold Rush that created this amazing town. Learn to pan for gold, where you get to take home whatever you find!

10. MAGIC TOWN

Your kids will love exploring this miniature city that combines hundreds of intricately detailed sculptures and cityscapes with magical elements such as holograms and rooms that change right before your eyes. Each guest receives complimentary popcorn and a list of items to find in a fun scavenger hunt. After your visit, enjoy the shops and restaurants in Old Colorado City.

11. National Museum of WWII Aviation

The National Museum of World War II Aviation is the only museum in the world to focus exclusively on the unique story of the role of aviation in World War II. See how pilots and their support personnel changed the course of world history. Through a combination of its aircraft collection, exhibits, interactive displays, and docent-led tours, the museum tells the story of our nation’s tremendous technological advancements during the War, and describes the lasting social and economic changes that were essential to the success of the Allied war effort.
