'A Tale of Two Centuries'

Colorado Vocal Arts Ensemble welcomes Parish House Baroque for a concert featuring the music of revolutionary Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi. Bridging the 16th and 17th centuries, Monteverdi's dazzling and intricate works defined the High Renaissance and ushered in the Baroque.

This program highlights his sacred works, including the radiant Gloria from Missa in illo tempore and the jubilant Beatus vir. The evening also features evocative madrigals that capture the composer’s mastery of text and emotion, from the delicate murmurs of Ecco mormorar l’onde to the passionate longing of Si, ch’io vorrei morire. Rounding out the program are Monteverdi’s dramatic gems, including the haunting Lamento della Ninfa and the elegant pastoral ballet Tirsi e Clori.
