Step right up, folks, and get your tickets to the Pardi Gras! This signature fundraiser for Manitou Springs Carnivale is in its second year.

Pardi Gras kicks off the round of Carnivale/Mardi Gras activities that the Manikrewe committee stages, which includes the January 6 gathering at the Armadillo Ranch to start the Mardi Gras season (Ephiphany), CarniBall (February 22) and the Carnivale parade (March 1). Carnivale in Manitou Springs is 32 years old, and this is the first year that it is operating as a nonprofit.

“For the first 25 years, the Carnivale parade was coordinated by community members who had been involved for several years,” said Jenna Gallas, Carnivale board president. “It was handed over to the Chamber in 2018 as local volunteers were retiring from organizing. Three years in, the Manikrewe committee formed to assist in the logistics and expansion of the parade.” In 2024, Manitou Springs Carnivale officially became a nonprofit, creating a path to long-term sustainability for the beloved Manitou event. “Carnivale in Manitou is a true community event, and the intent was always for it to remain so---an event for the community by the community,” said Gallas.
