“CBS THIS MORNING” TO RAFT WITH RIVER RUNNERS MONDAY 6/30
River Runners, a rafting company with two locations on the Arkansas River in Colorado, will be featured in a segment about whitewater rafting through the Royal Gorge on ‘CBS this Morning’ Monday, July 30, 2012 at 8:00 Mountain Standard Time.
According to Scott Peterson, marketing director at River Runners, CBS picked up on a press release the Colorado rafting company had distributed about thrill rafts. He said longtime news correspondent Bill Whitaker along with the show’s producer and a camera crew went rafting through the Royal Gorge earlier this month. “They liked the angle of using smaller rafts to provide a more exciting experience at low water and tying that in with the fire recovery in Colorado,” Peterson said. “This is a great opportunity to show a national television audience that our state is not on fire and it’s just as fun and beautiful a destination as ever.” While taping Whittaker took a quick swim through Sunshine Falls, one of the bigger rapids found in the Royal Gorge according to Travis Hochard, operations manager at River Runners, who was guiding the mini raft. “My biggest fear leading up to this Royal Gorge rafting trip was for the correspondent to swim,” Hochard explained. “Thankfully we had a quick rescue and Bill was a great sport. He actually seemed to enjoy the excitement of it.” Hochard said Whittaker and the CBS crew took two rafting trips through the Royal Gorge with no swims the second time down. “I had a great time meeting Bill and it seemed like he really enjoyed himself,” Hochard explained. “I just hope this feature will help bring people back to Colorado.” River Runners has offered fully guided whitewater rafting trips on the Arkansas River since 1972.
