50th Anniversary Celebration – July 20, 2019 - 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. – The Space Foundation looks back at this first small step on the moon and to the next giant leap in space discovery. Special activities include the unveiling of the U.S. Postal Service’s moon-landing stamp, rocket building, an Apollo virtual reality experience, rover driving and special “Science on a Sphere” presentations.
Breakfast with an Astronaut – July 20, 2019 – Experience an extraordinary start to the day by sharing a meal with Astronaut Duane "Digger" Carey. This special opportunity offers first-hand storytelling from an astronaut while enjoying a delicious breakfast. Tickets are available on a first-come, first served basis and must be purchased in advance. Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission to the Space Foundation Discovery Center is included with the purchase of the Breakfast with an Astronaut.
Apollo 11 Documentary Showings – July 20, 2019 – Explore the U.S. Air Force Academy’s reopened planetarium experience. Closed to the public since 2004, this site welcomes Academy visitors with two daily showings. Begin the special Apollo 11 event with the sounds of a U.S. Air Force band member singing the National Anthem the exact moment the lunar touchdown took place. Afterward, enjoy one of two full screenings of “Apollo 11: First Steps Edition” that premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. All events are free, but reservations are required for the documentary’s screenings.
Moondae Ice Cream Social – July 20, 2019 - 1-2 p.m. – Head to Old Colorado City’s Pikes Peak Library location to create “moondae” ice cream sundaes in honor of the moon landing. The event is free and open to the public.
