Colorado Springs Celebrates Travel and Tourism Industry
Tourism dollars pay for parking meters during national travel and tourism week.
Colorado Springs, Colo. – May 3, 2019 – Several downtown Colorado Springs and Old Colorado City parking meters will be free May 6-10 thanks to local tourism dollars generated by visitors through the Lodging and Automobile Rental Tax (LART). The City of Colorado Springs and Visit Colorado Springs are partnering to highlight the many ways travel contributes to the community. A free sign will be visible on the meters at the lucky spots in various locations.
The free meter sponsorship is part of the 36th annual National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), which unites communities across the country to celebrate how travel matters to American workers, economic growth and personal well-being. The theme of this year’s NTTW, “Travel Matters,” highlights the innumerable ways in which travel makes up the fabric of the Pikes Peak region’s culture and economy. Each day of NTTW will celebrate a different facet of travel: the economy, new experiences, workers, infrastructure, health benefits, hometown pride and how travel strengthens families.
“We are passing some of these vital tourism dollars along to our residents. Covering the cost of parking is just one small example of how tourism helps elevate our community, supports our local economy and enhances quality of life,” said Visit Colorado Springs President and CEO Doug Price.
“During National Travel and Tourism Week, we take time to recognize the tremendous impact tourism has on our local economy,” said Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers. “We are proud that millions of people travel to Olympic City USA to experience all that we have to offer.”
