Located about an hour from Colorado Springs is the Golden Loop Historic Parkway, a 17-mile driving tour about the mining history starting from Cripple Creek to Victor, what was once known as the “World’s Greatest Gold Camp.” Here you’ll see trails, exhibits, historical mines and ghost towns from the 1890s when the area produced millions of ounces of gold.
If you’d like to step out of the car, you’ll find self-guided hiking, biking and horseback trails where you’ll be able to view mining exhibits and artifacts as well. Take the trail through the Vindicator Valley near Goldfield and Victor where you’ll find sites such as the Portland Mine, the Strong Mine, the Cresson Mine, the Gold Coin Mine, the Ajax Mine and more.
